Mircea Cantor's »Untitled« shows a cross made from a cowpat and dried flowers on the wall of a house in Romania, an ancient custom for protection against evil and disease. Cantor is interested in everyday objects, which he documents in passing, in order to preserve their transient beauty.


Mircea Cantor, born in 1977 in Oradea, Romania. He lives in Cluj and Paris. Recent solo exhibitions include Salzburger Kunstverein (2011); Holy Flowers, Kunsthalle Nürnberg; Wise as snakes and gentle as doves; Museum Abteiberg, Mönchengladbach (2010); Which light kills you, The Common Guild, Glasgow; Tracking Happiness, Kunsthaus Zurich (2009); The need for uncertainty, Arnolfini, Bristol, Modern Art Oxford (2008).
