With their photographic portraiture Clegg & Guttmann draw on the aesthetic conventions of 16th and 17th Century portrait painting – from Frans Hals to Rembrandt, and Tizian to Caravaggio. They examine codes of power relations, staging individuals in environments that indicate their cultural, economic and social backgrounds. The Keyboard Player features Austrian musician Philipp Quehenberger.
